A Storage Snapshot Is Not a Session Model
Why broader browser-state capture needs more than copying key-value pairs.
Scope: Engineering or methodology note based on a September 17, 2026 snapshot. Source-level behavior is not a public availability or universal compatibility claim. Any scenarios are illustrative, not customer outcomes.
Browser storage can influence what an application does before and after an interaction. Capturing one storage surface at one checkpoint can be useful without establishing a complete session model.
KodeCapture’s current capability floor includes bounded local-storage checkpoint evidence. Broader storage mechanisms remain separate questions. This article explains the future acceptance problem rather than announcing support for every browser state surface.
State has a time and an owner
A synthetic application may read a preference at boot, update it after a click, and use it on the next navigation. A single snapshot can miss the transition even if it accurately records one moment.
The relevant question is which state belongs to which declared checkpoint and how that state participates in replay. A bag of values without timing or scope can be difficult to interpret and unsafe to treat as the complete session.
Different stores are not interchangeable
Adding a new storage mechanism affects acquisition, identity, replay initialization, and the meaning of completeness. A product should not treat support for one store as evidence that all others are covered.
The same caution applies to cookies. Redacting sensitive values is not the same as supporting an authenticated session lifecycle. Privacy handling and behavior qualification are connected but distinct requirements.
Build fixtures around transitions
A useful future evaluation would include a controlled state change, a later read that depends on it, and a negative case where the state is missing or belongs to the wrong checkpoint. The fixture should be able to distinguish a copied value from a faithfully observed transition.
Korpus provides source-owned pressure for browser-state work, but a source-integrated example does not automatically establish product support or live verification. Those labels need to remain separate.
For an assessment, describe the state-dependent behavior rather than asking whether the tool “captures storage” in general. The current supported floor may be sufficient for one narrow objective and insufficient for another.
The goal is not to collect the most state possible. It is to preserve the state needed to interpret the declared journey, with clear authority and limits. A snapshot is evidence about a moment. A session model needs to explain the relationship between moments.
